‘We’ve got him here’: Snubbed NSW star pranked by Matty, urged to call ‘terrific bloke’ Daley

Overlooked NSW Blues hopeful Terrell May joined the gang for Sunday Night with Matty Johns and addressed his omission from Laurie Daley’s squad.

Wests Tigers prop May has been one of the form players of the competition but was snubbed for the likes of Max King and Stefano Utoikamanu for the series opener against Queensland at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.

May’s omission came after a controversial comment made during a live stream — in which he instructed a friend to throw the Blues jersey he bought for him in the bin — although Daley insisted the player’s social media behaviour had nothing to do with his non-selection.

May suggested on Sunday night’s show it mightn’t have been the best look, although he did clarify the comment was a joke.

“I’m just chillin trying to stay off social media. Not the best at that stuff,” May said.

“… My stream were like saying there were lots of reports I didn’t make it and there were hundreds of comments about it. I had bought my mate a Blues jersey and he’s a QLD supporter and he said, ‘I’m not wearing it (now) I’m chucking it in the bin and that’s when I made that comment.”

In an interview with Code Sports on Sunday May suggested his last name may have been a significant factor in his shock Origin snub.

May believes his Sydney Roosters departure, coupled with the controversies that have surrounded brothers Tyrone and Taylan influenced Daley.

However he also revealed plans to call the NSW coach, when the time is right — “He’s too busy right now getting the team ready. It’s not about me” — something Johns encouraged him to do on Sunday night.

“You should give him a call. Do you know Laurie? He’s a terrific bloke, you should have no apprehension in giving him a call. He’d love it,” Johns said, before briefly getting May’s heart to skip a beat with a hilarious prank.

“Well we’ve got him here…”

It left the panel in stitches but May reiterated he was serious about his plans to speak with the Blues coach.
