South Sydney star Brandon Smith reportedly was interviewed by police who were waiting for him at Gold Coast airport ahead of his 150th NRL game against the Titans.

The Daily Telegraph reported police were waiting to speak to Smith when he landed on the Gold Coast on Saturday ahead of the clash with the Titans on Sunday afternoon.

The NRL was notified that Smith was pulled aside and interviewed by police as the Rabbitohs squad and staff disembarked from their flight from Sydney to Coolangatta.

The NRL Integrity Unit has reached out to the Rabbitohs to explain the situation and what transpired with Smith at the airport.

There was no suggestion of any wrongdoing by Smith on the plane from Sydney and the Souths’ utility was free to play the Titans on Sunday.

When contacted by The Daily Telegraph, Souths CEO Blake Solly said Smith was with the rest of the team at their Broadbeach Hotel on Saturday evening, but offered no other details about their airport arrival.

Queensland Police issued a short statement, revealing on the incident.

“Queensland Police had cause to speak to a 29-year-old male at Coolangatta Airport,” the statement said.

“The male was later released without charge. Police have no further information to provide.”
